Tyler Cohen Wood is a keynote speaker, author, blogger, national security expert, and overall cyber authority, she is relied on to provide a unique insight into cyber threats, cyber warfare, mitigating cyber risk, national security, and ensuring industries have the tools and knowledge they need to defend themselves in the digital world.

She is launching cybergirl power, a website, and conference to get girls excited about cybersecurity, which includes ways to protect themselves in digital domain.

Tyler also sits on several cyber advisory boards such as the EC-Council Global Advisory Board (ECIH) and the CyberSat Conference Advisory Board. In January 2019 she was included in the Cybersecurity Ventures list of “Top 25 Cybersecurity Experts to Follow on Social Media In 2019.”

Cybersecurity appears to be a male-dominated space, wouldn’t you agree? How then do you build an inclusive future of work in this field?

Tyler definitely agrees that cybersecurity is heavily male-dominated. The statistics don't lie, and the numbers are there.

But she believes the path to creating an inclusive begins at the root. From being in school.

Which is why she started "cybergirlpower."

Tyler thinks it’s important to get young girls into STEM fields now. So she strived to create a safe space that pushes inclusivity within cyberspaces.

She built a community that teaches young girls how to protect themselves online. By learning how to protect themselves, they could grow up to become the future of cybersecurity. 

AI is still at a young stage, yet it’s profoundly changing how businesses operate. Where do you see the future of AI heading? 

There are a couple of different futures Tyler sees.

Obviously Artificial Intelligence will take over highly complex tasks. Tasks that involve processing large amounts of data for further analysis.

She sees a rise in industries like Healthcare and Fintech incorporating these technologies. Tyler remains optimistic and sees a great future ahead.

What role do you think technology can play in developing cybersecurity solutions to meet growing customer gaps and shortfalls?

At some point in the future, Tyler speculates that Artificial Intelligence will help ward off cyberattacks before they happen.

Artificial Intelligence could identify “zero-day threats” to prevent attacks. It will also reduce the problem of multiple security problems.

Tyler sees AI as a tool to help correlate anything that’s happening on any device. Within or outside of your network, you are aware of what’s happening in every device.

Being a thought leader in Cybersecurity, what measures do you think organizations and individuals should take to protect themselves from cyber incidents? 

Right now, we are scared. They see an uncertain future, they’re frustrated. And they’ve been forced to shift into this foreign digital ecosystem.

They’re afraid and confused, and this is when they’re at their most vulnerable. This is when hackers and predators are likely to attack. 

Tyler reminds everyone that it is okay to be a little paranoid. It’s better safe than sorry.

Be cautious about the links you have received.

She advises you to keep a separation between personal, and professional devices. And to also keep them on different networks.

Try to avoid getting into new inventive technologies. She understands that this is an exciting time to innovate, but just be safe. 

An example

Homeschooling is on the rise. Districts are struggling with this transition. So there isn’t a lot of teaching right now. Most teachers are handing out assignments to students via email.

This is where the hacker enters the picture. A hacker who is targeting someone might locate where these students go to school.

And with this information, they can pose as a teacher, and send out files for targeted students to download.

This allows the hacker to access your network, thus compromising your security. So please be careful out there.

Know exactly what is on your device, especially your smartphone. Go through your smartphone. Look at various settings that you have. See what applications have access to other areas, like microphones, cameras, etc. Turn off unnecessary services if you don’t need them

Another top tip she recommends all of you to grab your smartphones. Go into your wi-fi settings and turn the auto-join option off. This thus prevents predators from accessing your network.

Any layer you add to security, if you just keep applying these different layers of security, you make yourself a less inviting target.

Given your experience with technology, what do you believe lies in the future of conversational intelligence? How is it going to change the world of customer service?

The pandemic has brought about many changes in cyberspaces.

Three months ago, Tyler would have said something else. That while technology is great, there is this component of isolation.

But now, she sees technology bringing us together. She sees it building communities. There’s much more compassion, and technology has done a brilliant job in bridging these gaps. 

Tyler believes Conversational AI to humour the innate part of us wanting to connect with other people.

So in that sense, Conversational AI definitely helps with Customer Services. Technology will connect customers right away.

It can help with customer queries, while still stimulating the need for conversation. So really, technology meets all customer needs.
